Construction of the trenches at Park Hall near Oswestry continues apace. Numbers of volunteers were boosted by the addition of 11 members of the Royal Irish. The trenches are being boarded and sandbagged and the building of underground rooms is well underway. Mark Hignett, the project co-ordinator, said he was delighted with the progress. The trench system is not a copy of any one trench but is designed to give visitors an authentic experience of what conditions would have been like.
Alun Morgan, schools history advisor, said that there was no other comparable trench experience in the country and that this will be an invaluable resource for schools across Shropshire and beyond.
