Shropshire Archives has been co-ordinating an extensive range of activities to commemorate the First World War. The programme encompassed many different art forms, across both the visual and performing arts. In the autumn of 2018 particular focus was given to the poetry of Wilfred Owen, to remember the centenary of his death.
Many volunteers have indexed, catalogued and photographed archive documents and members of the public have been inspired to research their own local and families histories. These have revealed facinating stories.
On this website you can see a summary of the projects, find locations of war memorials, names on the Roll of Honour and read stories of how the First World War affected Shropshire. You can also contribute your own stories and images of Shropshire people during the First World War.
