The sun shone for the opening of the Trench Experience at Park Hall, Oswestry. The impressive network of trenches was formally opened by Lt Col Graham Shannon, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment.

It is a great achievement and demonstrates the astonishing effort which went into digging the thousands of miles of trenches on the Western Front. Mark Hignett, who co-ordinated the project, said “the trenches project emphasised once again what a small group of people can do when they get together and work as a team, everyone from the steering group right up to the working volunteers deserves a massive pat on the back”.
